The #1 Mistake with Claude – and the 10-Second Fix

You download Claude, type in a first question, get a really good result – and then that moment comes. A connector will not connect. A skill does not load. Cowork does not start properly. You try again, maybe google it, find nothing specific – and close the laptop.

What always helps

Just ask Claude.

It sounds trivial, but that is exactly the point: Claude can explain how Claude itself works. If something is not working, describe the problem directly in the chat – and Claude will help you fix it.

What makes AI tools special is that they can help with their own operation. Claude knows its features, its settings, and its limitations. Cowork not starting? Ask Claude what might be causing it. A connector not connecting? Describe what is happening. Not sure how to set up a project? Claude will explain it step by step.

Three examples from our day-to-day

When something is not working

“I am trying to connect my Google Calendar, but nothing happens after authentication. What can I do?”

When you cannot find a feature

“How do I create a custom skill? I want you to automatically consider our chart of accounts whenever you analyze an invoice.”

When you do not know where to start

“I am an accountant using Claude for the first time. What are the three most important things I should set up?”

The screenshot trick

Sometimes a problem is hard to put into words. An error message is cryptic, or something just looks “off” and you do not know where to begin. Here is what helps:

  1. Take a screenshot – on Mac with Cmd + Shift + 4, on Windows with Win + Shift + S
  2. Paste it into Claude – just press Cmd/Ctrl + V directly into the input field
  3. Ask – “What does this error message mean and how do I fix it?”

Claude sees the screenshot, reads the error message, and gives you a concrete walkthrough. Often faster than any Google search, because the context of the question is already there.

In short

If you get stuck anywhere – whether during setup, with a feature, or on an error message – just type your question directly into Claude. It sounds simple, but it works almost every time.
